How to get the photos you desire & envision:

What Do i wear?

Neutral colors work best for landscape and outdoor photoshoots. Think earth tones and subtle patterns versus neons. A pop of color looks beautiful!

If you have an outfit in mind that is more vibrant / colorful / specific, we can choose locations or studios that work best with the style you are wishing to create.

Try to avoid wearing smart watches, hair ties, etc. These can be edited out when needed, but are easier to avoid during our session!

Does location matter?

YES! A large part of my work focuses on locations, lighting, time of day & specific settings.

Photography is an art form & a photographer knows how to best recreate a specific portfolio look that you are wanting and also how to ensure consistency in their own work.

I will guide you along the way and offer any necessary changes or suggestions.

Things to avoid:

Editing your own photos:

After you receive your gallery, avoid re-editing or placing filters on your photos when posting to social media or printing.

Not only can this negatively impact the quality of your photos, you are associating a photographer’s name and business with a look and style of editing that is not their own.

If you post an edited image, there’s a chance that others will not like the style and discredit the photographer as a result.

Prior to your session with me, we will discuss your vision and go over any inspiration that you might have. If you have any specific change requests after receiving your gallery, contact me first to discuss our options!

Worrying about what you look like during your session:

I have been on the other side of the camera, so I know how intimidating it can feel if you are not used to it!

The beauty of photography is that my whole job is to help you look & feel confident while capturing all of your best angles.

I love to remind clients that the best portraits are created in the moments between poses, the ones where you are not thinking about where your hands go or how to smile.

Focus on having fun & trust the process!

Kids will be kids:

Try not to expect perfection during a session with young children. Portraits are a great way to capture the “now”— whatever that may look like. In families with young children it is very normal and expected for a child to cry (newborns especially), refuse to smile or to not pay attention.

Again, trust the process and your photographer!
